What Causes ‘Dysregulation’ Anyway?
Trauma
If you endured or witnessed a traumatic or life-threatening event, you may develop severe symptoms that keep your nervous system on RED ALERT all the time. You may have anxiety or PTSD. Or you may be shut down, unable to enjoy life
Brain Injuries
Blows to the head can cause such symptoms as explosive rage, impulsive behavior, or cognitive impairment. Whiplash from a car accident, head blows from fights, or hitting your head on the sidewalk are examples of traumatic brain injuries that throw your nervous system out of whack.
Child Abuse
Trauma in childhood can cause multiple symptoms that impair your ability to live, love, and enjoy life. If you think this could be you, take the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Questionnaire below. A score of 4 or more has serious impacts on physical and mental health.
Prenatal, Natal, or Genetic Issues
If your mother was traumatized while carrying you, or had a difficult birth, you may have been born dysregulated. You may inherit genetic tendencies for ADHD, anxiety, or addiction cravings that make it difficult to self-regulate.
Neurofeedback is Not Counselling
Neurofeedback turns traditional mental-health diagnostics on its head: we don’t diagnose, and we don’t treat. We use physiological symptoms to help guide us to where the brain is dysregulated so that we can target areas where the brain needs to suppress or produce specific brain activity.
