Long-Lasting Damage
TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY
A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a sudden injury that damages the brain. Brain injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for Canadians.
A Path to Healing
RESTORATION BY NEUROPLASTICITY
There are 4 main types of TBI:
1. A concussion, caused by shaking, an impact to the head, or whiplash,
2. A brain contusion—a bruise that can cause a brain bleed,
3. A penetrating injury, when an object penetrates the skull, and
4. An anoxic brain injury, when the brain doesn’t get enough oxygen to operate properly.
Any direct physical damage to the brain—even a “mild” brain injury—can have serious and long-lasting physical and mental effects: changes in cognitive function, personality, and mental state, memory loss, emotional issues, speech problems, sensory impairment, and psychological issues. Neuroplasticity, guided by neurofeedback, is the answer.
YOUR BRAIN
CAN REBUILD
ITSELF
Neuroplasticity is the biological, chemical, and physical capacity of the brain to reorganize its structure and function. Neurofeedback lets your brain “see” the damage so that it can take corrective action. Traumatic brain injuries, depending on their severity, may require as many as 60 neurofeedback sessions in order for the brain to restore optimal function.
